Vintage Salt, Selfridge’s Rooftop

For those who religiously follow us on Twitter, you will have been bombarded by photos and post updates during our lunch at Vintage Salt; the newest restaurant to take over the rooftop area of Selfridge’s department store in central London.

Designed with a seaside restaurant ‘all things nautical’ theme in mind, and a menu to complement, Elldrew popped in for a late lunch and was totally blown away by the sights and flavours…so much so we’ve paused to give Vintage Salt  it’s own blog post.

Fuelled by #WorldGinDay we shared a crusty ancient loaf with hand churned butter that was served warm, super crusty, with perfectly seasoned butter…it was hard to stop nibbling before our starters arrived. Starters consisted of a chilled Isle of White tomato soup with torn buffalo mozzarella (perfect with the crusty loaf) and hand dived scallops with a garlic and chilli butter. Both packed flavour and left us wanting more.

For mains we enjoyed Cornish lamb chops with spring vegetables and a green sauce, Josper grilled spring chicken with a spiced slaw, and an amazing side of truffled chips (fries) which were to die for – Drew could smell the truffle scent in the air upon arrival and they delivered on flavour and were more than moorish.

Bellies full but we couldn’t leave without trying a dessert, we shared the equallty fantastic ‘Vintage Salt Cigar’ – salted caramel, vanilla, honeycomb crumble fabulousness.

We actually didn’t want to leave, hoping to relax with a few more gins and wait until dinner service to do it all again, but alas our time was up and we needed to vacate the store before some serious shopping urges took over in the very expensive ‘Wonder Room’ at Selfridge’s! Got to go back soon to Vintage Salt. Food and atmosphere this good has to be experienced again and again.
